Hi! My name is Paolo Lutterotti and I am a research scholar at Network Research Lab

My research at UCLA, is mainly focused on Vehicular Networks, with particular attention to the study of new routing algorithms able to support the frequent paths disruptions due to nodes mobility. I'm actually working on 2 projects:
Vehicular Testbed
Vehicular Lab, headed by Dr. Giovanni Pau, is implementig the first on campus vehicular testbed. The aim of this project is to reproduce the same paradigm of PlanetLab in Internet for the Vechicular Networks. The system will consist of more than 30 vehicles (from the campus facilities) equipped with a pletora of sensors like a GPS device, a pollution detection system and a camera. Finally, a set of WiFi interfaces will allow to communicate in ad-hoc mode with other cars and in infrastructure mode to a fixed set of ap on road. This will enable the research community to investigate a new set of applications, from safety on road to entertainment. More info here
Practical Vehicular Routing Protocol
I'm working on this project with Antony Rowstron from Microsoft Research and my advisor Giovanni Pau. Our aim is to design an efficient discovery/routing protocol for vehicular networks. Since vehicular networks will consist of thousands of nodes, discovering destinations through flood based mechanisms or keeping local routing tables is unfeasible. We are interested in exploiting context informations to reduce dramatically this overhead. More info soon...
